In 4th grade your child will be assigned letter grades in the following 5 subjects. Behind each subject you will see a general description of what the homework might look like and what to expect. Your child was given a "Homework" folder with agenda pages inside, we fill this out together at the end of each day. Please be sure to take a look at this with your child, if anything is circled they have not completed it in class and it is homework. Homework is due the next day unless otherwise stated. It is very important that your child stays on top of their homework in 4th grade for many reasons: 1: I use it to guide my instruction, 2: they use it as practice, 3: if they get behind it is very easy to get buried in it.
Math: We will not have "homework" nightly in class. When students do have homework it will usually be the back side of 1 sheet. We have completed (at least 1) and I have checked (at least 1) of the problems on the opposite side of the homework paper so that you and your student can be sure to see a correct example of what is expected. Even if they finish their homework in class I ask them to bring it home so that you can review it before they turn it in the next day.
Reading: Reading grades consist of bi-weekly comprehension tests on the story we read in class, and any readers notebook pages, or projects we do pertaining to the story.
Language Arts: Language Arts grades consist of bi-weekly spelling tests, and any readers notebook pages, or projects we do pertaining to spelling or language arts. Students and Parents are responsible for studying the words throughout the week. Your child has a learning A-Z account set up for them to help them practice their words nightly. All spelling test will be taken on learning A-Z unless your child needs the oral and handwritten test 1 on 1.
Science: Science grades consist of a comprehension test and any projects or assignments we do related to the chapter. Science and Idaho History are alternated so we will not work on both at the same time. Because of this there will not be a lot of grades in each subject so it is imperative that your child completes all assignments and turns them in on time.
Idaho History: Idaho History grades consist of comprehension tests and any projects or assignments we do related to the chapter.
Please remember be sure you are signed up as on "observer" on your child's Canvas so that you can monitor grades and assignments. This is your 24 hour access to my grade book and is the best way for you to see your child's grades in real time and avoid any surprises when report card time rolls around. I do by best to keep this up to date.
